About PartyGrids

PartyGrids is a small, independent site with free tools for making printable bingo cards and word search puzzles for parties, classrooms and meetings.

Who runs this site

PartyGrids is a companion to SawPlot, a free cut list optimizer for woodworkers by the same maker, and is built the same way and to the same standards.

The maker's own work is in the shop: furniture and cabinets built in a garage, and lumber milled for slab tables. The site doesn't claim party-planning or teaching credentials. What carries over from SawPlot is the approach: small, free tools that run in your browser, show their work and don't overstate what they do.

Why it exists

Making a set of bingo cards that really are all different is a small counting problem, and so is hiding words in a grid so that each one appears exactly once. Both are easy to get subtly wrong. PartyGrids exists to get them right for free, without an account, and to say plainly when a word list is too short to keep every card different.

The goals are simple. The tools should be free and work without an account, because nobody planning a baby shower wants to create a login. They should be fast on a phone, since that is where a lot of party planning happens. Every card in a game should be different, and the site should be honest about what "different" means, which is why there is a guide on the math. Your word lists should stay on your device: the cards and puzzles are generated in your browser, and the share link is the only copy. And the games should be the kind played at parties and in classrooms: there is nothing to buy, nothing to put in, and nothing to win but a sticker and the right to call the next round.

What you'll find here

  • The bingo card generator: 3 x 3, 4 x 4 and 5 x 5 cards from any word list, with a caller sheet and a PDF.
  • The word search maker, with a word bank and a highlighted answer key.
  • The on-screen caller for projectors and phones.
  • Themed lists for showers, weddings, holidays, classrooms, meetings and road trips.
  • Guides to hosting a game and to the number of unique cards a list can make.

Editorial standards

  • Word lists are written for real use: long enough for the number of cards a class or party needs, and made of things that actually happen at the event or come up in the lesson. They are not generated from a thesaurus.
  • Numbers in the guides, such as the number of distinct card sets a list can make, are calculated rather than estimated, and the methodology page says exactly what the tools guarantee.
  • Mistakes get fixed. If a card repeats, a word is missing from a caller sheet or a puzzle hides a word twice, please get in touch. Real changes are recorded in the changelog.
